Last fall, our Optical Scientist Oscar Olsson started working on an Image-Processing Algorithm. This algorithm, when implemented into the Navigation System, will decrease the positional error of the Norhull Crawler even further.
The preliminary results indicate that the algorithm is successful when applied to the sensor. The Algorithm has introduced a new means of filtering bad pixels – while simultaneously enhancing the good quality pixels– in the form of a “value threshold”. When pixels are below or above a certain greyscale-value, they will be filtered out and not be counted as valid in the algorithm.
Simply put, the prescision of the system has improved and to confirm these results, testing will be conducted in an underwater-environment in a few months. Our team is confident that the system will be successful with the right Opto-Mechanical Design.
